Speechless from Negative Comment

Wow, I got a doozy of a comment on one of my blog postings. I chose not to publish it on that particular posting, but I'm copying it here.

"Bella" said "I don't mean to be mean but your hair is extremely boring. It has no shape at the bottom and the transition from dark (at the top) to light (at the bottom) looks terrible. Find a great stylist, dye your hair and get some layers. It's great to have long hair (I do as well), but it needs to look impeccable at all times because if you just let it be, it starts to resemble an untrimmed mop.
I know my words might seem harsh, but it's the truth. I work with one of the best stylists in the country. "

Wow. I'm literally speechless. I've never been told my hair looks terrible. I've been told to cut it (mostly by my hair stylist sister,) but I get my bangs cut by stylists who always marvel at the length and health of my hair and never suggest I get layers.

What really surprises me is that I try to keep this blog as positive as possible. There's enough negativity in the world that I don't need to add to it.

I really think this boils down to a matter of beauty being in the eye of the beholder. I don't personally find layers attractive, but I would never disparage anyone who chose to get them. Hence, I choose not to get them. I won't be dying my hair. I do use henna, but for religious reasons, I do not use dye. My hair may be boring, but it's mine, after all.

  1. Wow. Well bless Bella's little heart. Apparently she never had a mama to tell her, "if you don't have something nice to say, then STFU."

Your hair is gorgeous and your blog is great! I've learned so much from reading it! Please don't let the trolls get you down!

  2. You are a gorgeous person inside and out, and your hair is beautiful. Not boring, beautiful. I was actually just telling *my* hairstylist about you the other day, and she was really impressed when I told her about all the incredible styles you do. Not everybody has to have Barbie hair (by that I mean "perfectly done at all times"). It's ok to just let it be natural & not curled or dyed or straightened (or some crazy combination). It's natural beauty!

  3. I suspect that "Bella" may be a tad bit jealous of your hair ;) I don't know how someone could make comments like that without seeing your hair in person! don't let her get to you! xoxo

  4. She is just a petty, self-centered person who is delusional about her authority and importance in the world. "Live and let live" should be her motto not "I am holier than thou and I sit in judgement of all."

  5. The biggest enemy of long haired women is jealous women who don't have long hair.

    Yours is world class beautiful.

    Keep on rockin'

  6. Oh well.. you just earned yourself a new follower :) Happy to find this blog about how I can wear my long hair. I never find myself do anything interesting with it because I simply don't know how to. Thank you for blogging about hair, this blog might have saved my hair from being cut short. :)
